Final Project Rules

1. Introduction

The purpose of these regulations is to set out the bases for the presentation and grading of Final Projects (FP). For their presentation, there is the essential condition of having passed all the other subjects of the course. Registration will always take place in September, as with any other subject. On registering, the student has the right to use two examination sessions per academic year, one of which may be the extraordinary session in December, if all the requirements stipulated in article 9 of the Student Assessment Regulations are met. However, now it is not necessary to have registered the FP subject the previous year. Below the administration processes to be carried out by the student, the director and the administration are summarized.

2. Proposal

The various areas of knowledge with teaching in the school will propose those FPs that they consider suitable. The areas should be fixed accurately, both the title and the scope of the project, including a brief description of it. The students, in agreement with the proposing area, will request the assignment of the project that they consider of greatest interest. All the projects will have a director assigned to them who will be a professor at the school. If the project is carried out in collaboration with another external body, the external director should coordinate with the director at the school, both acting as co-directors of the project. Once the student and the director have agreed to carry out a project, they must fill out the FP proposal form. This document will contain the project description and the signatures of the student and director. The form should be delivered to the school secretary's office. The period for presentation of the FP proposal will be a minimum of five months before the submission of the project. The tribunal will be made up of three members, one of whom will be a professor in the projects area (who will act as secretary), or a substitute named by him or her. Under no circumstances can the director (or directors) of the project be members of the tribunal. To change a project, the student should request a new proposal, which should be taken to the secretary's office, and then follow the usual processes.

3. Submission and Defense

Once the project is completed, the director will fill out and submit the director's report to the secretary's office, if he or she considers that the level of the project is sufficiently high. If this document has not been submitted, the project cannot be defended. The director's report should be accompanied by a critical assessment of the presented project and the proposed grading. Once the director's report is submitted, the student will submit 4 copies to the secretary's office, one for the Project Library, bound in accordance withFP presentation rules, and 3 for the members of the tribunal. Furthermore, one CD-ROM will be included per copy with a single file in PDF format that contains all the documentation: complete written paper and appendices. This CD-ROM will be attached in a self adhesive sleeve inside the project. The number of pages of the project's written paper should not exceed 75, additional documentation can be added as appendices. The project should be submitted at least five working days before the date of its defense. Those projects that are defended before the first working day of March will form part of the final grade of that year. The presentation of the project will be in public session and it is recommended that it lasts no longer than 20 minutes. Depending on the type of project and the available resources, a practical demonstration can be made of the project result. After the presentation, the members of the tribunal may ask as many questions as they wish. After the questions, the tribunal will deliberate behind closed doors.

4. Grading of the Project

Once the deliberation of the tribunal is complete, the grading will be made public, and it will appear in the transcription prepared for the purpose, and which will be signed by the tribunal's Secretary with the President's approval. All the members of the tribunal will sign the official report on which the grade achieved by the student will appear. The grading will be from 0 to 10 points. The final grade will be that agreed by the tribunal or, failing that, the average value of the grades awarded by its members. The tribunal will use the following scale to award a grade in the most objective way possible:

  1. Technical and scientific content (5 points)
  2. Editorial and graphic quality (2 points)
  3. Presentation (2 points)
  4. Originality and innovation (1 point)

The tribunal will decide if the project is deserving or not to be a candidate for the annual prize awarded by the Ciudad Real Delegation of the COIIM for the best FPs. Once the academic year is completed the list with the 5 FPs nominated for the prize will be made public.

5. Validations

FPs carried out abroad can be either validated or defended at the ETSII of Ciudad Real. For validation, the project must have been successfully defended and have been carried out under the direction of a professor in the foreign centre. The procedure for the validation of the project is the following:

  • Once the project is completed and defended in the University or corresponding foreign centre, the director will issue a report stating the mark obtained by the student.
  • Furthermore, the person responsible in the projects area, after seeing the foreign director's report and the project, will propose a mark for the validation of the project, basing it on the mark obtained by the student abroad. For the defense of the project, the procedure is as follows:
  • The student will register the FP in the same way as if the project had been carried out at the ETSII of Ciudad Real.
  • The student will submit 4 copies of the project, the director's report and theFP proposal form to the Secretary's office, keeping to the same timetable as the projects carried out in this school.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If a student requests a different study specialization to that assigned to the area or areas of the director or co-directors, an express authorization must be included in the final report by a permanent professor of an area assigned to the requested specialization.
